The insurer's complaint to Noida Cyber Crime police says former employees of a lead-generation vendor kept policyholder data and used it to sell other firms' policies. An FIR names seven accused.

What happened

Bajaj Life Insurance has complained to the Cyber Crime Police Station in Noida that personal and policy data of its customers was misused, Amar Ujala reported on 25 August 2026. Police registered an FIR against seven accused: the call-centre company Bajaj Life used for lead generation, five of that company's former employees, and an insurance broking firm.

According to the complaint, Bajaj Life had shared data on prospective and existing policyholders with the call-centre company so it could generate leads and sell Bajaj Life products. Five of its employees later left and joined the broking firm. Bajaj Life alleges that they kept the customer data after leaving and used it to call its customers and offer insurance products from other companies. The insurer says the data was meant only for lead generation on its behalf.

What was exposed

According to the complaint as reported: personal details of current and prospective policyholders, including contact details, and information about their insurance policies. Neither report gives a number; The420.in describes it as data of thousands of customers. Neither report mentions bank, card or medical data.

Confirmed vs. claimed

Alleged by Bajaj Life (police complaint, FIR registered): former staff of its vendor kept and misused customer data after changing jobs.

Not established: how many customers are affected, exactly which details were taken and whether the data was passed on further. Investigators are to examine phones, computers and communication records. No court has ruled on the allegations. This is a case of data shared with a vendor being misused, not a reported hack of Bajaj Life's own systems.

What to do if you are affected

  • If you hold a Bajaj Life policy and get calls offering to "port", upgrade or replace it, do not share your policy number, OTPs or bank details. Call Bajaj Life on the number printed on your policy documents.
  • Pay premiums only through the insurer's official app or website, never through links or UPI IDs sent by a caller.
  • If you were mis-sold a policy, complain to the insurer first and then through IRDAI's Bima Bharosa portal.
  • If you lose money, call 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in.
